The first crop circles of the modern era began around the mid 1970`s and were termed crop circles because these mysterious imprints were for the first 10 - 15 years mostly solitary, perfectly executed and swirled "circles". Circles appear in any kind of crop, even grasses and later, equally enigmatinc imprints as geoglyphs, and in ice and snow.

Many of the earliest crop circles appeared in Australia, eg Tully, Queensland in 1966. Several swirled circles were discovered in swamp grass on a farmers property. The farmer reported to authorities that he had witnessed a UFO in the vicinity at the time.

Crop Circles:

    Another such example ( note, the same year - 1966) was related in the famous Australian "Westall Incident 1966" whereby three UFO`s landed at a public school grounds in Westall, near Melborne . The craft were witnessed by all the primary school students and teachers. With the arrival of a conventional aircraft a UFO moved from the school to a nearby field called The Grange with the school students in hot pursuit. There was a complex and perfectly swirled imprint which remained on the ground where the UFO had landed as reported by the now 50 year olds, who were students and witnesses at the time. There was a massive coverup operation in the aftermath whereby the school was visiited by miltary and civilian officials who had confiscated cameras, forbade witnesses to speak with the media and intimidated people into not trusting the veracity of their own experience and what they saw with their own eyes. The incident has been very well researched by Shane Ryan who produced recently a documenatry detailing the results of his investigations.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN RECOUNTING THIS INCIDENT IT IS JUST AN INTERESTING CO INCIDENCE THE LANDING SITE FORMED A PATTERN REMINISCENT OF CROP CIRCLE FEATURES AS IT DID IN THE EARLY TULLY, QUEENSLAND INCIDENT. I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT CROP CIRCLES ARE UFO LANDING SITES AS SUCH.

Not only in Crops?

Crop Circles have appeared in any/all varieties of crops, and most commonly in Wheat, Barley, Canola, Sweet Corn/Maize, rice paddies, rye, oats, silver beet, mustard seed. There have also been forest trees bent over in the same manner as the crops, with the trees lying almost parallel to the ground sweeping from the circumference of the circle and directed to the centre. Equally enigmatic are imprints which appear as "geoglyphs" that are deeply etched into the earth, or as snow, ice and sand designs. I call them equally enigmatic because no one person or persons have claimed authorship and there has only been feeble attempts to explain their origin. The evolution in frequency, number and complexity.

Since the mid 1970`s, crop circles have evolved over time in complexity and have increased in numbers, size and frequency to a point that it has become a global phenomenon from the year aprox 1983. By far the largest numbers of crop circles ocurr in the south of England in Wiltshire, and the largest numbers of these reference ancient sacred sites eg, Stonehenge, Avebury stone circles, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Uffington White Horse. Crop circles appear in the 3-4 months of the summer season as the crops mature. From 1983 people began to take notice of crop circles. A core of researchers developed, some with scientific backgrounds such as Terence Meaden, a meteorologist. Colin Andrews, Pat Delgado, Busty Taylor, followed later by many others. This original core of researchers began to catalogue, accurately survey and archive crop circles, forming a database. As widespread public interest took a hold, by the late 1980`s people were pouring into England from all around the world to experience the phenomenon first hand.  By the 1990`s, Wiltshire was averaging 300 crop circles per summer season. Between 1983 - 2003 there were recorded 10,000 crop circles, globally. Laser precision, and genious in geometry and mathematics have been displayed in the crop designs, even in the earliest circles. Are only some of them. Apologies to those I have not included. Just when people think they have an answer to the phenomenon eg, weather, hoaxing etc, or that the crop circles could not possibly get more complex.....each year confounds us anew, for those paying attention.

Enigmatic Features

Crop circles most commonly appear overnight, with little to no person/s being "caught in the act", despite the reasonably populated setting of rural Wiltshire, and the numbers of people, local and from anywhere in the world who are watching day and night over the fields in Wiltshire. There is only about 5 hrs of darkness during the English summer nights. How do we know for a fact that the crop circles appear overnight?

Since researchers began their work with database, they charter light aircraft at first light every morning during the season they photograph and report every new formation. Later the designs are accurately surveyed, cataloged  and archived on www.cropcircleconnector.com

For those who are convinced that all crop circles are man made there are some fundamental questions which need answering before even addressing the anomolous features found in plants and soil etc.

For Instance....

 it is extraordinary that people aren`t discovered doing their craft so to speak. However what has been witnessed and what has been filmed and photographed by hundreds of people, raises much of the controversy around the subject that is very confronting to the rational mind. Anomalous features are many as only briefly described below:

• Marked elongation and expansion of nodes in plant stems within crop circles.
• Expulsion cavities in plant nodes and seed heads. Not only in the flattened plants within a crop circle design but also in the standing plants within the design.
• Plants able to bend at 90 deg. And inch above the ground without breakage or damage to the crop.
• Enhanced growth by up to 5 times the normal and more prolific seed head production if the crop circle event is in mature crop.
• Microscopic alterations in cellular and crystalline structure of plant stems within CC`s.
• Canola plants bent at 90 degrees and inch above the ground and lying parallel to the ground without snapping. Flower heads as delicate as a poppy, and without any damage.
• Many documented examples of a previous years crop circle appearing again in the following years crop, whereby for example the crop that was flattened in the previous years design will grow taller than all surrounding crop.
• It is important to note the fact that even in 2001, when much of the farmland in the UK was declared off limits due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease, crop circles continued to appear as usual. Government restrictions may have placed them out of reach to ground researchers but they could be recorded photographically from the air.
• Concentrations of very fine pure iron oxides which do not appear naturally in the landscape in such concentrations and strictly within boundaries of crop circles.

• Radioactive traces in soil.
• Soil is dehydrated and hardened within crop circle as opposed to soil without.
• Strong electromagnetic field detected within crop circles.
• Sound frequencies recorded in crop circles.
• Balls, spirals, columns of light seen, filmed and photographed now by hundreds of people in association with crop circles. (Intense military interest in this phenomenon)
• Electronic equipment failure within crop circles. Mobile phones, cam corders, television cameras.
• Crop circles appearing in restricted locations, ie Andrew Lloyd Webber`s property and the then Prime Minister of Britain John Major`s property both of which have video surveillance and security guard 24/7. CC`s appearing at government installations, Ie End of airfield runways, adjacent to the Chilbolton radio telescope UK. In 1995 John co-authored the peer reviewed paper "Semi.Molten Meteoric Iron Associated With Crop Formation" (J.Sci. Exploration)

In conjunction with his crop circle work with W.C.Levengood, John was instrumental in developing the "MIR Stressguard" process, a tecnique which replicated the BLT Team`s discovery that seeds taken from crop circles which had accured in mature plants grew both faster than normal and also produced increased yield while simultaneously withstanding typical plant stressors, such as lack of water and sunlight. Years of attempts by John to bring this technology to the world`s seed companies failed, because the financial profits which could be anticipated were less than those garnered by the current, genetic approach.

NANCY TALBOTT`S JOURNEY WITH ROBBERT VAN DEN BROEKE.

At some point in the early history of the BLT Research Team, Nancy Talbott began hearing about a young man who lives in Holland called Robbert Van Den Broeke, who reportedly can tell when and where crop circles were going to appear and often what the design elements of the crop circle would be. This would be pertaining to Dutch crop circles and often not too far from where Robbert lives. If I understand correctly, Nancy was not interested in the paranormal aspect of crop circles. There were many researchers exploring this aspect. Nancy was a specialist in following strict adherance to scientific process and attention to physical evidence. However she kept hearing stories about Robbert actually witnessing balls of light, crop circles being formed and all kinds of light phenomena within his home.When Nancy heard and saw reports of a powder residue on external window frames with singeing and sooting which accompanied these light balls and then saw reports also of mysterious piles of white powder deposits (of considerable amounts) within Dutch crop circles she was ready to investigate to either prove or disprove based on the physical evidence. On the kind invitation of Robbert`s family she stayed in their home and from the very first night was stunned by what she experienced.
